Harbor Construction's greatest
assets are the employees who can make a difficult project such as this one,
a success.
One evening in January , the operator of this
Level Luffling Unloader heard the sound of twisting steel above his head. What he soon
realized was the Top Boom of his machine bent - for some unknown reason, his
10 yard bucket was hoisted over the sheaves and onto the top of the Top Boom.
The bucket stopped before the cables broke
but not before inflicting major damage to the steel members. The Unloader could no longer
operate and the plant was severely crippled in its Barge Unloading operations.
The owner chose to call Harbor
Construction Co., Inc. knowing before hand that Harbor could mobilize quickly with the
equipment and the expertise for such a critical project.
The removal and replacement of the Sumitomo
Heavy Industries Level Luffing Unloader Boom began by securing the Machine into a
'locked' position. Once complete, Harbor began rigging, then, pin removal.
At 150 above the flowing Mississippi River, all four pins were carefully
removed and the 46,000 lb. Top Boom was lowered onto
a waiting Deck Barge.
English to Metric conversions were required
for the fabrication of replacement steel.

Final Adjustment before Lift
Close contact with the owner and the
manufacturer were essential to completing the project quickly. Harbor completed its work
within a short time frame - thus getting the owner back into business
promptly and assuring the safety of his workers.
